Some days I have a lot to say. But there is only one blog and all of my posts are compiled in chronological order. To sort through and read only the posts you are most interested in, you can select from the three topics described below.
4N6Fact Fridays, fun forensic facts from the news. You know you want to read them! The weekly posts will appear on this blog under category 4N6, and also on tumblr.
Film2Fiction: Of all the things I pretend to know a lot about, writing is one topic where I have plenty of boots on the ground experience and lots to share. To view my blogs on writing select F2F.
And finally, book love. I review books I have read and loved and think you should read them, too. Click on book<3 Archives

First, understand that justice isn’t always about the truth. Often a just decision is handed down simply because one side made the more compelling argument. Mistakes are made. In the 1993 case of Anthony Wright, he was convicted of killing an elderly woman in North Philadelphia, after police claimed he voluntarily confessed AND that they found clothing with the woman’s blood in his residence during a search. Wright spent more than TWENTY YEARS in prison for–it turns out–a murder he didn’t commit. In 2014, DNA evidence cleared Wright and his conviction was vacated thanks to The Innocence Project. But, during their … Continue reading

DNA analysis has become so sensitive that someone could conceivably shake your hand– transferring your DNA onto their skin–and then they could go out commit a crime and transfer your DNA to that crime scene without you even being there. What kind of demented sorcery is that, you ask? Exactly! But this transfer largely depends on if you heavily shed your skin cells. They can tell a heavy shedder from a moderate one. In this test, men were the heavy shedders while women were more moderate. But that could be solely based on size. Mens hands and thumbprints are larger. … Continue reading

This is one incredible story! Take one super-evasive serial killer + add an obsessed writer (#mypeople) and a clearly inventive and thinking outside the box detective; simmer for 20 years and wow. What a story! I’ll link to the newspaper accounts, but simplified, the detective came up with the idea to take the DNA recovered from the crime scene and upload it to a genealogy site under a fake profile, hoping to match to a family member. AND IT WORKED! This ploy led police to Joseph James DeAngelo and ex-cop and frightening dude. “To find the DNA match, investigators created … Continue reading
