Some days I have a lot to say. But there is only one blog and all of my posts are compiled in chronological order. To sort through and read only the posts you are most interested in, you can select from the three topics described below.
4N6Fact Fridays, fun forensic facts from the news. You know you want to read them! The weekly posts will appear on this blog under category 4N6, and also on tumblr.
Film2Fiction: Of all the things I pretend to know a lot about, writing is one topic where I have plenty of boots on the ground experience and lots to share. To view my blogs on writing select F2F.
And finally, book love. I review books I have read and loved and think you should read them, too. Click on book<3 Archives

Dirty Dancing (Patrick Swayze + Jennifer Grey, circa 1987) Trust me. I was a big fan but I still wouldn’t call this movie a classic… and no way does it have cult status… and yet, twice this last week I heard the line “Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner” on two highly-rated, prime-time, network episodes: Grey’s Anatomy and the new sitcom Kath & Kim. I also recently read a YA novel which used used this line. YA? Please! Dirty Dancing was made in 1987… two years before my 19 year old son was born. I wonder how many 21 year … Continue reading

Cutting a document to size is the bane of every writer’s existence. Admit it… we’re in love with our words. But extra words cost money… more scenes in a movie increase shooting costs. TV has a rigidly defined length and commercial break format that requires a very precise page count. Books are no exception… more words = more paper and increased shipping weight. Cutting a manuscript to size is something we all will experience at one time or another. So how to determine what to cut or where? Beginning… end… middle? Where should you start? Twenty years in television has … Continue reading

It’s not just the music… but the look, too. Russia is looking to OUTLAW EMO!! They’re taking this step because they say the music (emo is short for emotion or emotional) is making Russian teenagers depressed and the number of sucides is up! (Which is clearly a bad thing.) But is it the music… the hair… the look? Probably not. Being a teenager is full of drama. Here’s an article about it…

There is a lot of discussion brewing on appropriate subject matter for reading and entertainment for children — all children, young adult (YA), middle grade (MG) and below. And I even found my own project embroiled in this controversy (long story, no longer relevant)… but still the discussion is something to be aware of and to contemplate. It first came up on my radar reading Chasing Ray, which is the blog site of an author who also reviews YA books. She picked up the discussion from a parenting site called Babble which features a really insightful article by author Rachel … Continue reading
